Laptop Vs Desktop: Which Is Right For You

Laptop Vs Desktop: Which Is Right For You

Nowadays it’s quite only possible to live with a computer. Whether you are a working adult or a younger person who still goes to school you will find that access to the Internet and the proper computer is essential today. The reality though is that the market is quite large, and it can take time to figure out what suits your needs the best one of the criteria that you need to take in two accounts the most is whether you need a desktop computer or a laptop. If you know very little about computers, it can be a very difficult choice to which you will need to give a lot of thought. So, let’s try to simplify this choice by going through the major differences and the pros and cons that could help you make up your mind.

Computing on the go or at home

Even if you are illiterate when it comes to technologies in the computer world you know that the big difference between a desktop computer and a laptop is that one has to be plugged in at home and the other one can be put in a bag and carried everywhere. There are many reasons why laptops can be carried and why you would choose a desktop over the great ease of carry ability made available to you thanks to a laptop. On the base of ease of carry alone, there is of course a massive benefit to using a laptop. Whether you are somebody who works on the road or simply a university student who needs to carry his notes all around a laptop is ideal in this situation.

Hardware

As you can imagine one reason why many people choose desktops over laptops is that desktops often allow for better hardware in their cases. One of the main reasons that this is the case of course is that not only is more powerful hardware more cumbersome, but it also requires a lot more power. The big difference here is that power supplies that are inside desktop computers are generally much more powerful than those four laptops. There exist laptops that have additional power supplies that you can plug into a wall that will both allow for more demanding software but also extend the battery life. You will find though that these laptops are generally way more expensive while also being way more cumbersome than normal laptops.

Needs and uses

Generally, when we talk about laptops most people use laptops as digital notepads. This is why in many cases people who only use laptops to type or take notes will opt for lightweight laptops that have a long battery life. This is why we are seeing a rise in the popularity of hardware like Chromebooks or the always-beloved ThinkPad from Lenovo. These laptops are essentially the modern answer to the once widespread use of portable typewriters. On the flip side though people who use desktops will often prioritize more powerful machines that are stuck in one place because they work from home or need a very powerful machine for example to render 3D models or use programs like Blender or Maya.

Price tag

As you can imagine the price tag between a laptop and a desktop is very different. That much is very apparent when you look at high-performance hardware. While you can find laptops that range from a few $100 to a few thousand dollars the average price of laptops is way lower than those of desktops. When you look at hardware for desktops whether it be a graphic card or a power supply you might find some that are as expensive as certain laptop models. This is why your budget can also dictate what kind of computer you can purchase. You will find that if you want a very high-performance desktop it could go up to almost 5 figures. If you are simply looking for a notepad-type laptop you could pay only if you under dollars for a new one or even cheaper for a refurbished model.

As you can see the differences between laptops and desktops are many and with this list of differences you should be able to make the choice that is the best one for you. Ideally though if your needs are varied you should be able to get a desktop to do your work from home and potentially have a cheaper laptop that you can use for school or simply to carry media that you need to show during meetings. You will find that in most businesses this is very much the mentality since you will see that a lot of employers offer both desktops at your desk at the office as well as a laptop to use for work wherever you are. The reality is that most businesses of now become hyper-reliant on computers since the Internet is so important for communication between employees and employers.
